Meltham
Meltham Probus Club, founded in February 1975, is open to men who are retired or semi-retired.
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, starting at 10:30am at the Liberal Club, Wessenden Head Road, Meltham.
Tea, coffee and biscuits are available prior to the meeting at the modest fee of 50p.
The speaker topics range from Meltham Greenway to New Zealand, from Life as a National Serviceman in the Royal Marines to The “Insatiable” Lola Montes, from Signs, Symbols and Secrets in Painting to Desert Island Discs.
In fact, something for everybody.
There are also events organised – there have been visits to Drax Power station, the Crosland Hill Observatory, trips down the canal. There is an annual a bowling competition with guests from local Probus clubs.
Four meals, two formal and two informal buffets, are held throughout the year.
This year, a Walking Club has been organised – nothing too strenuous.
If nothing else, it gets you out from under her feet!
