Members stood in silent tribute at their first meeting of 2018 as they remembered highly-regarded past president Norman Dyson who died in hospital on January 5 after a short illness..
Mr Dyson, who was 87, joined Probus in 1998 and was elected president in 2001 and again in 2013. He also served on the committee and was currently joint social secretary.
A retired engineer, he was born in the hilltop village of Blackley between Elland and Huddersfield and played for the local cricket club. He also had a lifelong interest in the affairs of Blackley Baptist Church, serving on the management committee and helping to organise social events.
Mr Dyson is survived by his wife Elaine, a retired teacher, son Christopher, daughter Annette and four grandchildren.
