2016 saw the 50th anniversary of our club. Our founding members originated the name “Probus” derived from the words “Professional” and “Business” thus forming the first club in the world to use this name.
Our inaugural luncheon meeting took place on 2nd March 1966 and to mark this we held a joint lunch with the Rotary Club of Caterham and the Probus Club of Tandridge on 3rd March 2016. It was by the initiative of the Vocational Services Committee of the Rotary Club of Caterham, under the chairmanship of the late Harold Blanchard, that our Probus Club was formed. 20 years later there was a long waiting list with those wishing to join having to wait over two years, so they were encouraged to set up a separate club and thus the Tandridge Club was formed with an initial membership of 40. With our common roots we have maintained a close association with this neighbouring Probus Club. For more details please request a PDF copy of our booklet “50 Years of Probus in Caterham and Worldwide”.
We meet regularly for lunch on the second Tuesday of each month and have a variety of social activities and outings throughout the year. We are always pleased to welcome visitors and guests and those who may wish to consider joining.
