Chafford Hundred (Brentwood)
Welcome to our club
An explanation of the Club Title
When our men’s club was founded in 1980 there were already other Probus clubs in Brentwood and Shenfield so a name had to be chosen to differentiate ours from the others. As Brentwood is at the Northern end of the old Saxon region of The Chafford Hundred that name was adopted. The residential development near Grays built nine years later was also called ‘Chafford Hundred’ but has no association with our club.
Lunch meetings are held at The Mount Avenue Banqueting Suite on the last Friday of each month except December which is the Christmas Lunch and is on the second Sunday. Wives, partners and other guests are welcomed to the April, August and December meetings. Following each lunch except those in March (AGM) and December one of a wide variety of speakers will give a talk to the assembled company.
During the course of the year our social secretary organises a number of exciting excursions by coach to London theatres and places of interest. Lunch or dinner is included in all outings not to mention coffee/comfort breaks along the way.
The club supports a number of charities from funds raised by members’ annual subscription of £25, raffles at the ladies lunches and our Christmas card which members sign together with a donation. Regular donations are made to The Herts & Essex Air Ambulance, St Francis Hospice and sometimes to a third charity of the president’s choice.
