The March 2025 meeting, at which this picture was taken, was the last during Sir Richard’s presidency and he made these comments to the club members before handing over the role:
Thank you with entrusting me with the role of being your President for the past year. As Tony (Pepper) pointed out to me at this point last year, it is an enjoyable experience, especially the opportunity to meet and share conversations over lunch with our wide variety of speakers.
Highlight of the year was our well attended Golden Jubilee lunch.
On the downside, sadly we’ve lost some long-standing members and I’ve had to begin far too many lunches with a minute of reflection.
Our challenge will be to renew our membership.
One of my monthly duties is to survey the room during lunch, to see when members have finished eating. Tony kindly pointed out a club member who invariably finishes last and this proven true and a great help.
I also will take this opportunity to thank the staff at Slepe Hall for their excellent service to the club during the year.
My thanks also to the committee members for their work throughout the year and especially to Michael (Burnham) who as lunch secretary ensures that the individual lunch choices for every member for each monthly lunch are provided in good time to the hotel.
Finally, I’m delighted to welcome Guy (Evans) as President and wish him an enjoyable year.
