This was a fascinating afternoon with a talking tour of the carefully restored and maintained fairground organs, with tea and delicious cake as great refreshments.
The organs were collected by Mr. Albert Reed originally as a hobby to indulge his interest in mechanical organ music. They were collected or salvaged from France, Germany and the UK, one of which from the old Butlins at Bognor Regis. They became a charity in 2004 in order that they might be preserved and more available to the public.
We had a concert of music from Strauss, Verdi, Elgar and finished with Pomp and Circumstance and the National Anthem, the later organs playing more as an orchestra than a military band.
We are already looking forward to our next outing which will be a private viewing at Chenies Manor.
