PRESS RELEASE – CLUB CELEBRATES GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
The Probus Club of Huntingdon and St Ives has celebrated its Golden Anniversary. On 6th August sixty-two members and guests came together to celebrate at a gala lunch held at the Slepe Hall Hotel in St Ives. At the pre-lunch reception attendees were entertained by St Neots based harpist Felicity Meakins who also played during the lunch. Following the lunch club president Sir Richard Barnett gave a celebratory address which was followed by entertainment provided by musician David Caulfield who talked about and performed songs from the sixties.
Probus clubs began in England in the mid-1960s and now extend to over 4000 clubs worldwide. They provide fellowship and friendship to retired and semi-retired business and professional people and are non-sectarian and non-political.
Members of the Huntingdon and St Ives club have a wide range of backgrounds including business, education, farming, IT, local government, music, police, the services and science. They come from the two towns and surrounding villages extending from Sawtry in the north to Bar Hill in the south. The club meets for lunch at the Slepe Hall Hotel on the first Tuesday of each month. Lunches are followed by a talk which ranges from the informative to the entertaining.
The club is a friendly and welcoming group and is open to new members. Anyone interested in becoming a member is invited to contact club secretary Alex Alexander at alexjabie43@gmail.com or on 07976 284006. Further details of the club can be found at www.probus-stives.org.uk.
